A fantastic collaborative project is enabling young people in Nigeria to receive future-proof IT training: The dedicated initiator Anton Edl, in cooperation with the Viennese association “PCs für alle“And the Don Bosco Mission Austria collected around 400 computers, monitors, printers, and network equipment. The devices were transported to Nigeria in June 2026 to equip vocational schools run by the Salesians of Don Bosco. Young and old worked together on the preparation and packaging: In addition to volunteers organized by Edl, students from the Evangelical Gymnasium Vienna and Erasmus+ students from the Czech Republic actively helped to get this valuable aid for self-help underway. A distinguished visit to our Vienna workshop! A delegation from the Ukrainian municipality of Dubowe (Transcarpathia region) made the long journey to Vienna to personally pick up 100 complete PC systems, laptops, and several printers for schools. The three representatives of the municipality can be seen loading the equipment in the photos. The delegation consisted of: Denys Kahanets (Chairman of the Dubowe City Council), Yaroslav Mykhailovych (Member of the Dubowe City Council and Head of the Department for Education, Family, Youth, and Sports), and Ivan Meklesh (Deputy Mayor). Why computers are indispensable for education: In today's world, access to computers is no longer a luxury, but the fundamental basis for modern education. Digital media opens the door to the world for children, enables modern, interactive lessons, and ensures digital participation. Especially in regions scarred by severe crises, learning on a computer is a crucial building block in giving children a sense of normalcy, knowledge, and a real perspective for the future. Do you remember our big campaign last year? Here are the details: Together with the dedicated students of the Protestant Gymnasium and Werkschulheim, the Vienna Business School Akademiestraße, and the Nawowa Association, we sent complete PC systems on their way. Now, the first pictures from the mountains of Colombia have reached us – and they show the impact of this aid on the ground. These are touching and inspiring images: beaming children's eyes in front of newly installed screens. In the remote schools of the indigenous Arhuaca and Kogi communities, the computers are now in daily use. Where previously chalk and blackboard were often the only teaching tools, a completely new, digital world is now opening up to the children. They are learning how to use modern media, conducting research for their lessons, and gaining access to global knowledge that would otherwise have been unavailable to them. For the indigenous communities, this infrastructure represents a giant step towards educational equity and a self-determined future. A vibrant project: The next shipment is being prepared! The pictures from Colombia have provided an enormous boost of motivation in Vienna. Seeing that every step of cleaning, data erasure, and resetting the devices goes exactly where it's needed is truly inspiring. That's why we're wasting no time: Preparations for the next shipment are already in full swing! Once again, schools, technology, and development aid are working hand in hand. Livia Bammer from "Engineers Without Borders" has brought our laptops to Tanzania for the second time, and it seems like this is becoming a long-term partnership. Of course, we can achieve very little outside of Austria, but even tiny drops can wear away stones. Engineers Without Borders. The pictures are from the Young Mothers Home project in Biharamulo, Tanzania. Here's more information about the project: The "Asa Jua" project involves installing two independent photovoltaic systems in western Tanzania to supply social facilities with reliable, renewable energy. In Biharamulo, an 18 kW solar system with battery storage is being built to power a site with a sewing workshop, beauty salon, recycling plant, and supervised accommodation for young mothers. Another, smaller system is being built in Kayanga, where it will exclusively supply electricity to a plastics recycling workshop. Both sites were developed in recent years by the organization MOJO Fullscale Studios in cooperation with other NPOs and local partners and are operated by the Catholic Diocese of Rulenge-Ngara. The project aims to secure stable jobs and create opportunities for disadvantaged women – especially young, single mothers – who are supported and assisted by the Catholic Diocese of Rulenge-Ngara. The project is being implemented by Engineers Without Borders Austria in cooperation with local businesses. Additionally, during the project trip, a solar thermal system was installed for a neighboring primary school, intended to improve hygiene and the daily lives of the children. 2.500 kilometers for rescue and safety in Kharkiv: An ambulance from Vorarlberg and a fire engine from Leonding have reached their destinations in Ukraine after long and challenging journeys. The ambulance is now stationed at the children's oncology clinic in Kharkiv, just 20 kilometers from the Russian border, while the fire engine from Leonding has begun its work in the war-damaged city. Both vehicles are a sign of Austrian solidarity with a city that is suffering greatly from the effects of the war. Kharkiv: Industrial and university city in a state of war. Kharkiv is the second largest city in Ukraine and an important center for industry and science. But the city bears severe wounds from Russia's war of aggression. The visible destruction is devastating: residential buildings are damaged or destroyed, entire neighborhoods bear the scars of bombing raids. Rescue and firefighting capacities are strained and overwhelmed. Against this background, every piece of support – such as these two vehicles – is a crucial contribution to the rescue and fire protection forces as well as to the medical care of the population. The ambulance: For the region's only pediatric oncology clinic. The importance of the pediatric oncology clinic in Kharkiv can hardly be overestimated. It is the only clinic of this specialization within a 500 kilometer radius. Here, children with leukemia and other cancers are treated. The ambulance is therefore not just logistical support, but a crucial part of the medical infrastructure – it enables children and their companions to receive life-saving treatment. The fire engine: For the city and its residents. The fire engine from Leonding makes an important contribution to firefighting and disaster relief in Kharkiv. In a city plagued by bombing raids, functioning fire engines are essential. They are necessary to extinguish fires, rescue people in emergencies, and protect infrastructure. The vehicle from Austria expands the capabilities of local emergency services, enabling them to provide faster and more effective assistance. Images of a destroyed clinic: Particularly poignant are the images of a clinic in Kharkiv that was occupied by Russian soldiers for two months. The operating room has been looted, the equipment destroyed. The director stands in his formerly prestigious office – the extent of the devastation is unimaginable. After only two months of occupation, the clinic is barely recognizable. These images powerfully demonstrate how important access to functioning medical facilities and equipment is for Ukraine. Gratitude of the patients: The children and their families are extremely grateful for the support. They understand that this ambulance is a gift – a sign that they are not forgotten, that the world sees their suffering and acts. For many of these children battling leukemia, reliable medical care means a chance at recovery and another life. The people of Kharkiv are also grateful for the fire engine, which increases their chances of rescue in emergencies. An act of solidarity: The transport of both vehicles is not only a logistical achievement, but also a strong sign of international solidarity with Ukraine. Erich Hofmarcher and the Kiwanis made it possible – together with many other helpers and supporters whose commitment and generosity made this mission possible in the first place. The deployment in Rojava demonstrates the effectiveness of targeted support in crisis situations. Rainer Brim and the Caravan of Humanity bring computers and other resources to where they are urgently needed – thus enabling direct improvements for the population. The Ashti Center: Coordination of 30 organizations. The Ashti Center is a central coordination point for humanitarian aid in Rojava. This is where everything comes together: The center coordinates the activities of 30 different aid organizations with the goal of distributing aid supplies and services evenly and according to need to the many people in need. Such a complex coordination task requires a functioning IT infrastructure. The problem: The center is massively underfunded, and its volunteer staff work without their own laptops. This makes their work inefficient and significantly hinders data collection, planning, and communication between the participating organizations. We have equipped the Ashti Center with 15 laptops. These devices enable staff to carry out their coordination work more professionally and efficiently – a direct contribution to improving the distribution of aid on the ground. The Orchid Team Initiative: Art for cityscape and mental well-being. In addition to material aid, psychosocial support is essential in crisis areas. The Orchid Team initiative by artist Samir Kalo contributes in its own way. The initiative paints large-scale images on the walls of houses in Rojava. In an environment characterized by conflict and often appearing bleak, these murals bring color, beauty and a kind of visual expression of hope into everyday life. The residents consistently report their delight at the changed cityscape – a psychological effect not to be underestimated in difficult times. At the same time, Samir Kalo offers young people a meaningful leisure activity through this initiative. In crisis regions, this is an important factor: it provides young people with structure, creativity, and a sense of belonging. We supported the initiative with 150 liters of paint – a direct contribution to the ongoing projects. The Syrian Women's Council will also soon receive computers and laptops from us. The organization plays a vital role in supporting women in the region and is in urgent need of functioning IT equipment. These missions demonstrate what we work for: not to fill statistics, but to enable concrete improvements in people's everyday lives. A functioning coordination center means better distribution of aid. Color on the walls signifies hope in difficult times. Computers mean empowerment. Rainer Brim of the Caravan of Humanity, together with the organization HIRO, launched a large-scale aid mission in northeastern Syria. He traveled to the Rojava region with a fully loaded semi-trailer truck to distribute donated goods originating from Austria. The shipment included basic material supplies as well as resources for education and psychosocial support: 700 sleeping bags, 800 pairs of shoes, six pallets of clothing, wheelchairs, over 20.000 diapers, more than 1.500 kilograms of school supplies – including notebooks, rulers, pens, and 300 school bags – and toys and cuddly animals for approximately 3.000 to 4.000 children. One hundred desktop computers and 150 laptops were also provided for digital infrastructure. A particular focus of the mission was supporting the University of Rojava in Qamishli. Fifty desktop computers with monitors and 20 laptops were presented to Dean Dr. Munir. Following the Newroz New Year celebrations, a computer lab will be set up for students, offering free access to computers and the internet, as well as training courses. Given that teachers earn an average of only 200 euros per month, this measure is crucial for access to education. In addition to distributing donations, the mission also has cultural and scientific components: Rainer accompanied the renowned political scientist Thomas Schmidinger during research for his upcoming book, conducted interviews with one of the last Assyrian families in the region, and supported the non-profit organization Artist Team with paints and toys, which provides therapeutic painting and play for orphaned and traumatized children. Furthermore, discussions were held with local leaders—including the Speaker of the Jazira Regional Parliament, the former Minister of Health, and representatives of the Syrian Women's Council—to explore future project opportunities and the most pressing needs in the region. Schoolchildren in the war zones of Ukraine live and learn under conditions that are almost unimaginable for many of us. Air raid sirens, shelling, and destroyed infrastructure repeatedly interrupt their daily lives and often make regular classes impossible. www.unicefusa.org Millions of children in Ukraine currently have only limited access to education, and especially in the front-line regions, many cannot go to school safely. According to Save the Children, about two out of three children there are excluded from in-person classes and rely on distance learning, which is further complicated by power outages, a lack of equipment, and unstable internet connections. news.un.org For these children, however, school is far more than a place of learning. It means support, community, protection, and the hope for a better future. Concrete help is therefore all the more important. The Association PCs für alle We were once again able to contribute to humanitarian aid in Ukraine. A shipment of urgently needed equipment and personal protective equipment was successfully delivered to firefighters and rescue workers in Ukraine. Organization and Execution of the Transport: The aid supplies, including several crates of essential equipment and safety shoes for emergency personnel, were picked up from our warehouse in Vienna and transported to Lviv. The transport was carried out and organized by Lorenz Neuhauser and Tassilo Klingelhöfer. Lorenz Neuhauser, a student of food and biotechnology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU), organized the logistical aspects of the transport together with Tassilo Klingelhöfer. A vehicle from the organization VM4U (Vienna Mission for Ukraine) was provided for the journey. Tassilo Klingelhöfer, a teacher in Bavaria, collected and coordinated additional aid supplies from Bavarian schools, supplementing our donations. Due to his professional commitments, he can only carry out such transports during school holidays and on public holidays. Another shipment is already planned for February 2026. On-site handover: In Lviv, the aid supplies were handed over to volunteers responsible for their onward transport to the eastern regions of Ukraine. From there, the materials went directly to the fire and rescue services, who perform life-saving work under difficult conditions. Feedback from Ukraine confirms the urgent need for this type of equipment. The robust protective clothing is particularly important for the emergency services, as they work daily in dangerous conditions. Acknowledgement: This aid operation was made possible by the commitment of numerous people. Chancellor Christian Stocker announced today that Austria will support all measures against Iran, including sanctions. This announcement follows decades of sanctions policy by Western states against the Islamic Republic, the effectiveness of which has been minimal. The reality of previous sanctions: Iran has been subject to comprehensive international sanctions and embargoes for decades. The results of this policy are sobering: While the general population suffers from inflation, supply shortages, and a lack of economic prospects, the ruling mullahs and their cronies have barely had to curb their luxurious lifestyles. The sanctions systematically target the wrong people. A key reason for this failure lies in the consistent circumvention of the embargo measures. Iran possesses significant oil reserves, and where there is oil, there are buyers – despite all official prohibitions. Through complex networks of shell companies, intermediaries, and compliant states, Iranian oil continues to flow onto the world market. In addition, there is the drug trade and a flourishing arms trade, which secure stable sources of income for the regime. Experiences from direct work with refugees as chairman of the association PCs für alle I have gained insight into the reality of Iranian refugees. We continuously support people who have had to flee the regime, and several of them are now actively involved in our organization. We have assisted dissidents with their asylum applications and heard their stories – stories of persecution, torture, and desperate escape from a system that brutally suppresses any form of opposition. These people tell us firsthand how the current sanctions policy has failed: Their families back home suffer the economic consequences, while those in power in Tehran remain unmolested. The Revolutionary Guard, the officials, the mullahs – they all have access to foreign currencies, imported luxury goods, and international financial networks. The sanctions are driving ordinary people into poverty and despair without weakening the regime. The Failure of Western Policy: The uncomfortable truth is that many Western governments have no real interest in closing the loopholes. Economic interests, geopolitical considerations, and the fear of rising energy prices lead to a contentment with symbolic politics, while truly painful measures are neglected. What would actually work? The necessary steps are clearly identifiable: Consistent financial sanctions: All accounts of individuals demonstrably collaborating with or profiting from the regime must be frozen worldwide. This requires international coordination and the political will to take action even against powerful economic actors. Criminal prosecution: Representatives of Western companies that pursue business with the Iranian regime despite sanctions must face criminal prosecution. Only the threat of personal liability will reduce the incentive to circumvent them. Total diplomatic isolation: No visas for regime loyalists, no state visits, no high-level diplomatic contact. The regime must feel its complete international isolation unless it fundamentally changes its policies. Transparency and control: Comprehensive monitoring and disclosure of all oil flows, consistent prosecution of sanctions violations, and severe penalties for the companies and states involved. Conclusion: Further announcements of sanctions without a substantial change in strategy are mere symbolic politics. If Western governments are serious about putting pressure on the Iranian regime, they must be prepared to bear real costs and make uncomfortable decisions. Otherwise, the sanctions policy will remain what it has been: a burden on the Iranian people while simultaneously stabilizing the regime. The Iranian refugees we work with deserve more than empty promises. They deserve a policy that actually targets their oppressors, not their families. 

Poverty among single parents is not just a problem in Austria. In rural regions of India, single mothers often have little chance of economic independence. This is precisely where the organization Nishtha, founded and led by Dr. Barbara Nath-Wiser, comes in. Computers as a key to the future: For many years, PCs for All has supported Nishtha's work with laptop donations. The devices are used in training projects that open up new career prospects for single mothers. For these women, computer skills mean more than just education – they are the path out of poverty and into self-reliance. Direct exchange, direct help: Dr. Nath-Wiser recently visited us in Vienna in person and picked up two laptops herself. This direct connection shows that every single device reaches where it is urgently needed. In the mountains of the Dhauladhar range, where the population lives mainly from agriculture and day labor, our donated laptops create real opportunities. When theory meets practice: Protestant Gymnasium near PCs für alleHere's Part 1: 250 Computers for the Caravan of Humanity. Yesterday was the big day: Students from the Protestant Gymnasium visited us and actively participated. Accompanied by Prof. Andreas Roncat and Prof. Fischer, the young people immersed themselves in the world of IT hardware – and did an outstanding job! Hands-on instead of just theory. During the visit, it wasn't just about watching, but about practical work. The students engaged intensively with server hardware and switches. Prof. Roncat and Prof. Fischer explained the technical connections and demonstrated how these components function in practice. Enthusiasm and commitment. What particularly pleased us was the students' great enthusiasm. They asked questions, pitched in, and showed that technical understanding and social commitment go wonderfully together. It is precisely this combination that makes digital participation possible. An important step. This visit marked the start of the joint preparation for the 250 computers that will be sent to northern Iraq and Rojava. Next week, we continue with the Dynatrace team. Sometimes aid operations begin with an urgent phone call. This happened to Erich Hofmarcher of Kiwanis Upper Austria, who recently received an urgent request from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: Incubators for premature and newborn babies were damaged in attacks on the children's hospital in Odessa. Devices on which the lives of the smallest and most vulnerable patients depend. Erich Hofmarcher is no stranger to aid work in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the war, he has been bringing semi-trailer trucks with aid supplies, ambulances and fire trucks directly to the war zone every month. What many would consider too dangerous or too complicated has become routine for him – a routine that saves lives. The request for incubators was particularly urgent. Premature and sick newborns need the controlled environment of these medical devices to survive. Every day without functioning incubators means an increased risk for the youngest patients in the children's hospital. Tyrolean solidarity. Two incubators from Tyrolean hospitals have already been promised today. What would be a bureaucratic process taking weeks in peacetime was made possible in hours – because people like Erich Hofmarcher understood the urgency and because Tyrolean hospitals reacted immediately. These incubators will soon find their way to Odessa, transported by someone who knows the way and is not afraid of the risks. Silent heroes of everyday life: Erich Hofmarcher's commitment is extraordinary, but he doesn't talk about it much. While others talk about getting help, he drives. month after month. Semi-truck for semi-truck. Aid supplies, medical equipment, vehicles – everything that is urgently needed in Ukraine. Kiwanis Upper Austria and Erich Hofmarcher demonstrate what is possible when commitment meets determination. They show that help does not end at borders and that some people are willing to go where it is dangerous – because there are people there who need help. Every contribution counts. Such operations are only possible through a network of supporters: hospitals that provide equipment. Logistics companies that facilitate transportation. Donors who finance fuel and relief supplies. We are delighted that we were able to support a small school in Afghanistan with laptops. The organization "You are welcome" (www.you-are-welcome.at) contacted us and actually managed to get the devices to Afghanistan. This is, of course, just a drop in the ocean, but a drop nonetheless, and a sign of international solidarity.

A great success for international cooperation, educational equity and sustainability in practice: A total of 150 complete PC systems were prepared for transport to the mountainous regions of Colombia.
