Mission and mandate
Many people are denied participation in the digital world and e-learning because they or their supporting institutions cannot afford it.
Enabling digital participation
The non-profit organization “PCs für alle" accepts donations of used PCs, laptops, monitors, and accessories. The devices are refurbished and then donated free of charge to schools, charitable NGOs, and financially disadvantaged people.
Our motto: Help instead of throwing away. To pave the way for countless people, especially children and young people, into the digital future. Since 2018, we have been able to 31.157 families provide equipment free of charge.

What happened until now
In 2018, Peter Bernscherer began collecting the devices as a private individual and distributing them free of charge after refurbishing them. His basement serves as his storage unit, and his living room serves as his workshop.
With the Corona crisis, the demand for devices has increased so much that recently “PCs für alle” was founded as an association in order to be able to offer significantly more equipment through professionalization.
In Austria there are about 1,5 million people at risk of or affected by poverty!
Anything beyond the bare necessities of daily life is unaffordable. For schoolchildren, this means no project weeks, no exciting workshops, no afternoon care, because every euro is counted three times.
During the coronavirus pandemic, poverty had a devastating impact. Without a laptop or a PC, homeschooling was impossible. Suddenly, many children were simply unreachable. The Ministry of Education offered great tips, but they forgot the most obvious thing: that these children simply didn't have the equipment to participate in Zoom meetings or download assignments from the cloud.
The arrogance of politicians towards these children is unforgivable. Who will give them back this lost educational time? Who will take away their feeling of being second-class citizens? Children are our future! We must educate them well and give them opportunities. This is where education policy is completely failing.
Our association makes exactly that possible, provides students with IT equipment, creates equal opportunities, and does not degrade them to the status of supplicants.

Where digital participation is most urgently needed
Digital devices are now key to education, information, and communication – yet not everyone has access to them. Our map shows where most requests for support come from. It highlights where children, young people, and their families are particularly in need of support in their digital participation. This makes it clear where poverty is at home – and where we can work together to create opportunities.
