educational initiative

The NL40 association's Grandma/Grandpa project is an educational initiative that connects generations. Children and young people who receive insufficient support in their social environment are cared for in a one-to-one ratio by seniors and younger volunteers. Together, they complete homework, read, and play games. A team of experts accompanies the learning pairs. The project creates spaces for encounters and respectful interaction at its locations in Vienna, Krems, and Amstetten.

I grew up many decades ago in Burgenland, near the Hungarian border. The introduction of free textbooks made it possible for me to attend secondary school. After graduating, I moved to Vienna and stayed. At the age of 38, I earned a degree in general mechanics. Until my sudden hearing loss, I worked in a bicycle repair shop where welding, soldering, and frame alignment were still done. I also worked as a building caretaker and served as a works council representative for my colleagues. I learned about the "PCs for All" initiative through a newspaper. I'm delighted to be involved and to be able to make a small contribution!

Student at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Design Investigations (formerly Industrial Design 2). Since childhood, I've taken things apart out of curiosity. (Geo)informatics specialist, since 2018 teacher in IT vocational training at the Protestant Gymnasium and Werkschulheim in Simmering, a jack-of-all-trades (with emphasis on jack-of-all-trades). The first contact with the association took place in autumn 2021 – the first and only time we used the salutations "Dear Mr. Bernscherer" or "Dear Mr. Roncat". Despite these initial formalities, exciting projects between the association and the school have since developed continuously on various topics, be it PC and laptop hardware and software, servers, network technology, etc. Almost a win-win-win situation, in my opinion. In addition to visits to the workshop with and without students, I can also sometimes be found at the association's stand at the market in Neubaugasse or at the volunteer fair.
